How does it work?
Literally translated as “soul power,” Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing practice that does not focus on the symptoms that a patient is experiencing, but on the root of the issue in order to allow healing to take place. Reiki procedures are customarily passed down from teacher to student through oral tradition.
Reiki practitioners don’t use their own energy to heal, but rather tap into the universal source of energy, channeling it through the patient using either hands-on or hands-off therapy. Reiki allows our spirit to take responsibility for our own balanced wellness, opening our minds and bodies up to healing.
In a Reiki session, the patient will either sit or lie down in a relaxed position, and should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. The Reiki practitioner will then apply light, gentle pressure typically at either the head or feet, or they may simply hold their hands a few inches from your body. The patient can decide between touch or no touch.
Most patients experience an almost immediate release of stress and a feeling of deep relaxation.
